The connection of the “Defender of the faith” and the Passover Steinberg shows that the defend of faith forces symbolically throughout the story of the Passover. It shows how that the Passover had historically been a time in which the freeing of the enslaved Jews happened. Steinberg shows us that there was a connection with Roth using the Passover Seder as an excuse that Grossbart employs for they can separate himself from the other soldiers and clan that his special Jewishness he has. Steinberg always says that Roth’s stories don’t have a good connection with Judaism or a strong one because it’s not as deep as of a level of a personal identity. Ruth’s use of the Passover shows the connections between the Jewish migration myth and the holocaust.
