“The Lady of the Lake,” from the collection The Magic Barrel(1958), is one of Bernard Malamud‘s

The lady of the lake it shows how freeman found the love of his life, he got to know her. Throughout the story he lies constantly and it costs him because he lost the one thing he loved making it a bad ending for the reader.

The Magic Barrel is a 1958 collection of thirteen short stories written by Bernard Malamud and published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux.

The magic barrel talks about how he tries to find the love of his life but it’s hard for him because of the things he’s not used to doing. He finds her at the end but we get left speechless and wanting more because we don’t know how it went. How everything will be for them two.

Vol. 14, BERNARD MALAMUD’S LITERARY IMAGINATION: A NEW LOOK / BELLOW AND MALAMUD: THINKING WRITERS, “RADICAL HUMANISTS” (1995)
